The Ultimate Green Mixtape: 2018 Year In Review
Me: I wonder, if we were to pick a favorite suggestion from the other person from the playlist from this year, what would you pick?
The answer to that question, was no. Picking just one favorite is impossible! So we've created a top 10 list of the year of 5 songs recommended by each of us, picked by the other.
THE TEN:
Think It Over by Wild Child
Arms Tonite by Mother Mother
Kiss You Forever by Poolside
Shoulda Stayed Home by Callaway Martin
Brain Invaderz! by Mamahawk
April Showers by Proleter
Nanã by Polo & Pan
Beverly Blues by Opia
Happiness by Goldfrapp
Freight Train by Kush Moby ft. Anderson .Paak
Since our playlist is going to hopefully grow really really long since we'll be posting on it for a long time going forward, we've decided to create an "ultimate" playlist of our top 10 recommendations of the year. So for right now, there'll only be 10 songs, but I can't wait to see where it ends up!
And, since we had to have a picture for our playlist, I chose a picture of my dad and I together at my very first concert in 2010, Paul McCartney.
This year we kinda intentionally gave ourself the goal of finding rap that we liked, expanding our musical tastes through that genre in little ways. We didn't really get into the origins of rap, so I just want to acknowledge that fact and point out that it was a very loose exploration for us. Of course, our intention wasn't really to share the history of rap, but to share really good music with each otherAnd maybe we'll go further into that at some point, but even if we don't, I don't want to completely ignore the fact that rap has a really significant history of racial discrimination that should never be taken for granted.
That being said, for next year I don't think we'll go in with any particular goals, but we'll continue to let natural themes and explorations appear and evolve. Hooray for great music!
