Crazy About This

I had other posts planned and all written for today! But I'd been wanting to write about this for a while and it's driving me INSANE so I just need to write about this *craziness* ...and I'm using the word "crazy" very intentionally. As I'm sure nobody has guessed, I'm writing about Hunter Hayes. Who is he, you may ask? I boy from Louisiana with an obsession with music would be one way to put it. Or may just one of the most popular new country artists at this time who's entirely made his way to fame. If you want his full life story and incredible journey so far with music, you can check wikipedia and YouTube. It's all there. I don't need to tell all that. I'm going to tell my experience.  It's also kinda long too, so yeah (lazy). Just watch the video for Stormwarning, he played all 20-something instruments.

Anyways, I'm not big on country (which I'll also be blogging about later) so when I saw Tyler Oakley's video about meeting Hunter I was like Okay, sounds like an awesome guy, but okay. And then when I heard a HH song used at a UF gymnastics meet I was like, Okay, maybe this is more popular than I'd thought, hmm. A quick search of my itunes library told me that hey, I have a duet of Hunter's on the Footloose album (I collect soundtracks of movies I've seen). Listening to it, I was blown away a little bit, and I think I started falling in love a little bit right then. He has a gorgeous voice. Even if you hate country- c'mon, I mean this voice is LITERALLY gorgeous. He's been blessed, and if we're comparing voices, his blessing is my voice X100. The fact that I haven't sung for 3 years is irrelevant. Geez, can't believe it's been that long.

Well. Like I am oft to do, I placed him album on hold at the library (with like a million holds before mine) and looked him up on YouTube. Oh lookie, he has his own channel! With some music, music videos, and here it is, he does a weekly video taped throughout the week. I don't know if he realizes how much that'll help him, but that's killer. A *perfect* way to show fans what he's up to, visually & auditorially, show his great charisma & personality, and hook people right in. I won't say how long I spent on that channel that one Saturday night, but I'll tell ya this- I got reeeaal up-to-date on his musical career that weekend. Oh yeah, and he's good looking. Never hurts. I then followed him on twitter, amazing in time with his writing, because he had free downloads for two new songs within the month. Light Me Up & Can't Say Love. My gosh. Could he stop singing about love? Getting my heart broken over here, y'all!

I love music, but then I really love some music. The kind of music that when you're listening to it (especially with headphones) your breath catches. And then he pops up in a dream. But before you go all scandalous, I dreamed I sat with him while watching somebody perform, had a deep conversion about something I cannot remember, he left to perform somewhere, I left to meet friends, and then I woke up. Seriously. I dream about having deep conversations with my favorite celebrities/people. I'm not the kind of fangirl who asks for marriage or to have his child. Sure, if we were both in love with each other, I'd want that, but right now, I just want to have a conversation, maybe a hug. Call me weird all you want. Anyhoo, I hadn't had one of these music-loves since Panic! At The Disco a year ago. And trust me, when you have 7000+ songs on your ipod, it's not like there's any shortage to good music I'm finding.

I understand why people don't like country. All sounds the same, all about love or alcohol or women or trucks or love.... Yeah. And all of Hunter's IS about love. But it's good music. Ya know, a good bit of The Beatles's music was about love too... I have faith that he'll eventually write about something else. ;D According the itunes, he's officially labeled as "Country & Folk." But it's soooo not just country, as anyone could tell you. He's really taken from other genres to create his music, using the medium of country, because that's how he was born and raised, and that's what he knows. Looking into music, you can find pop, rock, "Honky Tonk," and Idk, he just writes so well that his "country" music will catch all the non-country fans while still being country. Dear Taylor Swift, don't argue, you're not.

Now I'm subscribed to his channel... I have his album... I am a fan... And I could even say I've seen a concert of his because a few weeks ago, he was having these mini concerts that were livestreamed online. I promise I didn't totally ignore my school stuff, I was writing a research paper for AP/AICE Environmental Management as I watched/listened. See? Effective use of time. I'd have listened to music while writing it anyways. I just got the added bonus of hearing him occasionally answer questions too. My favorite question asked him to choose between singing and songwriting. An impossible question for a musician, but quite entertaining. He chose singing and then being a ghostwriter, writing music under a penned name. What a cheat! So I came up with a ghostname for him. Asher Runthey. Anagram of his name, duh. Don't judge. I'm entertained easily.

So! I'm near the end of this, I promise. Yesterday he performed a new song at the ACMs called "I Want Crazy." Ahhh, you understand my introduction, now? Anyways, great song, this week's #ForTheLoveOfMusic video proved that he loves it just as much... And he also got to perform with Stevie Wonder! Those two things helped to make it very clear for me that, again, he's NOT just country. I'm still unsure how to describe it, but I can just say that I really really respect him as an artist. And yes, he is writing his own stuff. Another reason why he's a thousand times better than One Direction. He has musical talent, a great voice/sound, charisma, knows how to work with fans, edits his own YouTube video (skills), loves to tour... I'm sure he was born to be a superstar.

Which leaves me to my last point. Someday I want see him live in concert, and of course, I want a conversation too, but that's just wishful thinking. He's performing in Jacksonville April 20th. That's just killing me. I'll be in Jax on the 19th for a different concert. Only 1.5 hours away from my home. Killing me. I didn't buy a ticket because none of my family are country fans/I don't have friends who could go. I have the money. I don't quite have a license. But it's not sold out. And that's just killing me. If I could go, that would be two concerts in two nights, but it'd be the greatest weekend. Ugh. You see? And I already bought a ticket for my friend for the first night but since the cheapest HH ticket is like 50-something, that'd be a bit much to buy for a friend by ol' babysitter me. Don't think she's particularly a fan of H either. I want crazy, but this is just driving me insane.

Anyways. Here's a few of his links if you want to check him out.
