Pigeons and Kabins

Day 3: Austin, Texas to Van Horn, Texas

State Fact of the Day:
As we are not passing through any new states today, I thought I'd give you a fact about a state we're NOT going through this trip. Like...

Hawaii- The Hawaiian alphabet has only 12 letters: a, e, h, i, k, l, m, n, o, p, u, and w.

If you haven't checked out Couch Surfering before, you really should. It's such a neat experience. The people we stayed with Austin were very nice and really cool people and such fun to be with. They also had chickens and homing pigeons. The pigeons are a racing flock that they're training to race (they haven't yet) and most of them are very young. In fact, we got to hold some 2 week old pigeons. They looked funny because they were growing in their new feathers.

Anyways, we had a good time with them, and as UT Austin has one of the top Library Science programs there is a good chance I'll be back to check it out to see if I want to do my masters there.

We just saw a tractor on a freeway!

We were told to get some Texas peaches, and we saw about half a dozen or so places selling them, but they were really expensive and not that great looking, and so we asked about it and were told that most people lost 80% or more of their crops because of an early warming and then a freeze.

After a linner at Pit BBQ we just had hours of driving time where not much happened. We played Zeus of the Loose (a mythology and math themed card game) which Alex won. Unfortunately. Bella practiced some flute while Alex was the stand and at one point, I was the metronome.

Also, in my senior year summer reading we had to read part of Mythology by Edith Hamilton, but since I like mythology and love Rick Riordan's books, I figured a better knowledge of it could come in handy. So instead of only reading the first 100ish pages, I just read the whole thing (about 500 pages).

We finally got to our KOA Kabin in Van Horn, one that we'd already been to multiple times, around 8. We made grilled cheese for dinner, almost went to the pool before seeing lightning, and generally got ready for bed. We reach Arizona tomorrow.

Shout-out to anybody stalking me from Facebook. ;)

Picture is a map Bella drew of our trip. Goodnight.

See ya someday!
